Title: The Tragical History of Dr. Faust
Characters:
- Dr. Faust
- Mephisto
Scene: Dr. Faust's study
(As the curtain rises, Dr. Faust is sitting at his desk, surrounded by books and papers. He looks tired and bored. Suddenly, a voice echoes through the room.)
Mephisto: (Offstage) Dr. Faust! Dr. Faust!
(Dr. Faust looks around, startled.)
Dr. Faust: Who's there?
Mephisto: (Entering the room) It is I, Mephisto. I have come to offer you a deal.
Dr. Faust: A deal?
Mephisto: Yes. You are dissatisfied with your life, are you not? You long for something more?
Dr. Faust: (Nodding) Yes, I suppose I do.
Mephisto: Then sign this contract, and I will give you everything you desire.
(Dr. Faust hesitates, looking at the contract.)
Dr. Faust: What is the price?
Mephisto: (Smiling) Just your soul.
(Dr. Faust looks shocked, but then nods slowly.)
Dr. Faust: Very well. I'll sign.
(Mephisto hands him a pen, and Dr. Faust signs the contract. As he does, a look of excitement comes over his face.)
Dr. Faust: What now?
Mephisto: (Taking the contract) Now, the world is yours. Anything you desire, you shall have. But remember, there is a price to be paid.
Dr. Faust: (Eagerly) I understand. What do I do first?
Mephisto: (Smiling) Whatever you wish.
(Dr. Faust jumps up from his desk, excitedly gathering his things.)
Dr. Faust: I'm going to explore the world! I'm going to see everything, know everything, experience everything!
Mephisto: (Watching him go) Yes, my dear Dr. Faust. Enjoy yourself. But remember, the clock is ticking.
(Dr. Faust exits, and the stage goes dark.)
End of play.
